Life as I've Known it Lately
So I know it has been forever since I’ve posted and update. Life has been pretty busy, and when there is free time my thoughts have turned to doing nothing at all.
I’ve had a lot on my mind lately. It is time to register for next semester’s classes right now. This has always caused issues for me. I’m running out of classes to take. And the ones that I need to take conflict in times. I’ve been looking at getting a minor in Technical Theater since I have credits towards that from my community college experience, but almost gave up on this because of scheduling conflicts. I also debated for a while of dropping Architecture as a major. Part of me is just ready to be done with school, and I would be finished after next year if I just majored in Interior Design. I’m sticking with it though. Thanks to my two new advisors in my departments, I have figured out how to achieve the two majors, as well as the minor.
So for the moment my schedule for next semester includes:
Interior Design Studio
Professional Practice for Interior Design
Environmental Control Systems part 2
Costume Design
Advanced Volleyball
Piano
(Rome seminar to prep for this coming summer)
The thought of Rome this summer has also helped me renew my vigor for the Architecture degree. I’ve gone to two meetings so far about spending 2 months living in Rome and studying the architecture and sketching the city. The last meeting was spectacular, some of last year’s students came and talked to us and said how the pictures made them sad because they missed their “home”. They said the experience is unlike any other, because they were actually required to sketch the city and study it from an architectural prospective, instead of being a tourist and just enjoying the sights. Now I need to take the time to sit down and do my best to start to learn Italian. I’m debating dropping the costume design class and using that time purely for studying Italian.
As I said in one of my earlier blogs, I have a new roommate this year. His name is Joey, and I found him online. LOL Towards the end of the summer I found out that my old roommate Brigitte would not be returning to U of I this year (probably not ever again either). It was her responsibility to find someone to fill her shoes, but I decided to search as well, and it is a good thing I did. I saw an ad that Joey had posted on Craig’s List and decided to send him an e-mail. (In all my searching he was the only person I found who was not a freshman or sophomore.) After a few e-mails back and forth he decided to attempt living with three girls. I am glad to say that I was incredibly lucky and found an amazing roommate in Joey. He is a graduate student in Chemistry and knows how to spend time on his schoolwork, yet he also knows how to go out and have a good time on weekends. This past week he has been a great friend as I’ve been dealing with my most recent break up. (Anna would have been there for me that first night, but she has a study partner over.) As I sat in my room comprehending the situation he was happy to just sit with me, and drink a beer.
I went shopping yesterday. I was actually a good girl too and only got things I needed. I got two new pairs of jeans because all of my old pairs are developing holes in them. I also got two sweaters/sweatshirt and a zip up hoodie. (So I totally just started 4 sentences with I, but I really don’t care, I’m not in English class anymore.) Last time I was in Spokane I also bought myself a wonderful warm Pea Coat. Lately I’ve really wanted to buy an old Super Nintendo so I have something to do on those days where I need to sit around and do nothing. I can’t quite convince myself to spend the money on it though, and I’m also not sure if it would be too distracting on those days when I do have homework that I need to get done.
I can’t wait to come home for Thanksgiving break. The break is much needed, but I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again. And I can never complain about all the wonderful food!
